Intermodal / Rail

What is a rail service or intermodal shipping?

Combining the power of multiple modes of transportation such as air, sea, rail and over-the-road trucking, a rail service or intermodal service facilitates the movement of intermodal or shipping containers between destinations. Freight is loaded into the containers that are placed on chassis trucks designed to haul these containers. Afterwards, these trucks bring the containers to a flat rail car so a train can complete the longest distance of the freight’s journey. The container is then transferred off of the flat rail car and onto another truck to be brought to a storage location, usually a warehouse or distribution center to be offloaded.
